November 18 (Ottawa, ON)- The Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) Board of Directors recently approved the CAOT-BC strategic plan, a decision that has allowed the transition planning team to move forward with the implementation of the provincial branch.

The transition planning team consists of six members, Les Smith, Past President, BCSOT; Mary Wallace Poole, Past Executive Director, BCSOT; Mary Glasgow Brown, Past BCSOT Board Director and recent new graduate, Lori Cyr, BC representative of the CAOT Board of Director; Sue Baptiste, President, CAOT; and Claudia von Zweck, Executive Director, CAOT.

The mandate of CAOT-BC builds on the mission of CAOT to advance excellence in occupational therapy by providing a voice for occupational therapists in British Columbia. Values of CAOT-BC include integrity, accountability, respect, equity, innovation and transparency for the execution of the following strategic priorities:

1. To build infrastructure to support CAOT-BC.
2. To engage CAOT-BC participation.
3. To represent the professional interests of British Columbia occupational therapists.
4. To promote the new voice of the occupational therapy profession in British Columbia.

“At this stage we are working diligently to build CAOT-BC to address priorities outlined in the strategic plan,” says Sue Baptiste, President of CAOT. “Our priorities are focused on developing a nimble and cost-effective branch that addresses the specific needs of British Columbia occupational therapists.”

The work of the transition task force is underway to develop a permanent governance structure for the branch, as well as identify future CAOT-BC activities and services.  A major CAOT-BC initiative will be the hosting the of the annual CAOT conference in Victoria in June of 2013.
