CAOT Board Member Runs with Olympic Torch
posted: Monday, February 08, 2010
February 8, 2010 (Vancouver, BC) - British Columbia CAOT board of director member and Practice Coordinator for Occupational Therapy with Vancouver Coastal Health, Lori Cyr, will have the honor of running with the Olympic torch on February 11, 2010.
Ms. Cyr is a self professed Olympics junkie who finds it easy to devote two weeks to television during an Olympics celebration.
“Watching the Olympics has always been something I have enjoyed,” comments Ms. Cyr. “The incredible accomplishments of the athletes never ceases to inspire me.”
When an opportunity arose to carry the Olympic torch by entering an essay competition through Coca Cola, Ms. Cyr jumped at the chance. The contest required applicants to submit an essay on how they “live Olympic,” through either active living or protecting the environment. Ms. Cyr chose to elaborate on the latter theme and composed an essay that described how the oil crisis in the 1970s changed her family’s habits in such a strong way that she still practices them today.
“I live Olympic in my efforts to protect the environment in ways such as driving a smaller car, keeping the heat turned down, recycling and always being cautious to not leave unnecessary lights on - when friends come to visit me, they know to wear warm clothes!"
Ms. Cyr has already begun visualizing the moment she will hold the Olympic torch and anticipates that holding the Olympic flame will be a memory that will last a lifetime.
