Description: Frailty is recognized in gerontology and geriatric medicine as an increased vulnerability to stressors associated with low physiologic reserve and is identified as a significant predictor of falls, hospitalization, and death in the community-dwelling older adult. Occupational therapists working with this population must consider the impact that geriatric syndromes such as frailty have on occupational performance, yet there is little  discussion of frailty in occupational therapy literature. This webinar is designed to explore the two prevailing models of frailty in gerontology and geriatric medicine and presents a critical appraisal of frailty assessments relevant to occupational therapy research and practice.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will:

  1. Critique the two prevailing models of frailty in gerontology and geriatric medicine that identify frailty in community-dwelling older adults.
  2. Discuss how these two models may be applied in occupational therapy.
  3. Identify specific frailty measures that may be useful in occupational therapy research and practice.

This purchase is for the August 8, 2017, On-Demand Practice Evidence Webinar archive. The archive purchase will be in the format of a web-based link that will be emailed to you separately in the following business days.
