What is CAOT's role in academic accreditation?

  • CAOT plays a key role in developing standards and quality assurance mechanisms.
  • CAOT is the sole accrediting agency in Canada with the mandate for the accreditation of occupational therapy educational programs.


Why is academic accreditation important?

Academic accreditation:

  • serves to maintain consistent national standards
  • ensures quality professional education
  • supports the growth and development of educational programs and the profession.

Who benefits from accreditation?

Students, faculty, funders and decision-makers, and employers have the confidence that the educational program meets the standards of quality as determined by the profession.

What are the special features of the CAOT accreditation program?

  • Standards address the outcomes of the educational programs
  • Self-study guide addresses the strengths of the program and areas for continuous improvement
  • User-friendly for both the educational program and the accreditor
