Access to a Variety of Insurance Products
Through close partnership with our insurance provider, AON Reed Stenhouse, CAOT is able to offer members the most affordable rates of professional liability insurance in Canada. We are also pleased to offer other coverage such as clinic insurance, commercial general liability insurance, home and auto insurance, and extended health care coverage, among others.
Access to Pro-Bono Legal Services related to Liability Insurance
CAOT offers a pro bono legal service for members who hold professional liability insurance through CAOT. This service is offered to reduce the risk of civil claims or disciplinary complaints against occupational therapists.
Bell, Temple, Barristers and Solicitors will provide confidential advice by telephone to all occupational therapists that hold professional liability insurance through CAOT. Bell, Temple will provide advice or appropriate referrals on questions regarding potential civil claims or disciplinary complaints including:
- Confidentiality – client files/records
- Release of information
- Response to a subpoena
- Conflict of interest
- Ethical conduct
- Sexual misconduct
- Incompetence
- Other professional misconduct issues

Access to the Member Assistance Program (MAP)
CAOT is pleased to offer members the opportunity to enroll in the Membership Assistance Program (MAP), a significant health and wellness benefit that offers members (and their families) access to short-term counselling from highly experienced and trained professionals in a variety of areas including, but not limited to, general legal advice, nutrition, credit counselling, grief counselling and elder care resource support.
At only $48.00 per year, the MAP is a very affordable service. This level of professional support privately would cost an average of $130.00/hour. HT Health Works
As a CAOT member, you have access to the HT Health Works website, which will allow you and your family, or clients, the ability to monitor personal health information. Please use referral ID: CAOT when registering.
Free Access to a Variety of Journals and Online Research Materials
We are pleased to offer a number of useful and informative online journals including the British Journal of Occupational Therapy (BJOT), Australian Occupational Therapy Journal (AOTJ), New Zealand Journal of Occupational Therapy (NZJOT), the Canadian Journal of Occupational Therapy (CJOT) and Occupational Therapy Now (OTNow). These resources are all available through the members only section of our website. Individual members living in Canada have the option of receiving a hard copy of CJOT and OTNow or accessing it online. Individual members living outside Canada must access the journals online or pay an additional subscription fee of $65.00 to cover shipping costs outside Canada.

Online Resources
CAOT offers a number of helpful resources and tools to support you in your practice. We encourage you to take full advantage of them and also think about helping to develop other resources that will inform emerging areas of practice.
OT Finder is a public database of occupational therapists across Canada. This listing is used by individual clients, agencies and referring professionals to find occupational therapy services in their community. As a member of CAOT we are happy to provide you with the opportunity to include your listing in this database (it is important to note that only members who are registered in their provincial regulatory organization are eligible to be listed in this database).
The Mentoring Gateway is a network that provides members with an opportunity to develop a mentoring relationship with another member of CAOT. We encourage you to select a mentor who works in an area of interest to you and is able to provide you with guidance and support as you enter the workforce, change practice areas or wish to seek companionship throughout your career.
OT Networker is a valuable networking tool that allows CAOT members to locate other occupational therapists based on specific criteria.
Student Networker allows CAOT members to locate students who are currently enrolled in an occupational therapy program in Canada.
Network Exchange allows members to join a CAOT network and connect with colleagues to exchange information related to different practice areas, research student and international graduate issues.
Membership to WFOT
CAOT welcomes and encourages members to become an individual member of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT). By joining WFOT you will have access to the WFOT Bulletin and networking opportunities with occupational therapists around the world plus a chance to advocate for the profession at the international level. WFOT membership can be purchased with your CAOT membership for an additional fee of $30.00 + GST/HST. Eligibility for use of OT(C) with signature
CAOT individual members may include OT(C) in their signature line, where not prohibited by regulatory legislation. The credential OT(C) indicates that they have met the standards required to be an individual member of CAOT.
Recognition Awards and Research Grants
Members of CAOT are eligible to apply for funding through the Canadian Occupational Therapy Foundation (COTF), which offers several grants and scholarships each year. In addition, individual members are also eligible to be recognized for outstanding service and practice through the CAOT Awards Program.
