Through the Eyes of Children and Teens: Fostering Post-Traumatic Growth and Resiliency in a Traumatic World
6-Nov-2017 8:00 AM - 4:00 AM - Through the Eyes of Children and Teens: Fostering Post-Traumatic Growth and Resiliency in a Traumatic World

This two day workshop offers clinicians practical strategies for selecting evidence-based, trauma-focused treatments and assessment tools for use with traumatized children and adolescents. In order to help reduce the burdens on busy mental health practitioners, this workshop will offer clinicians a simplified training package aimed to help them become more effective in treating trauma, building resilience and facilitating recovery.

Utilizing a multi-phased framework to trauma treatment, this workshop will incorporate the following learning goals:

  • Evidenced based modalities for each phase of treatment: safety and stabilization, including the role of shame for trauma survivors, remembrance and mourning, and reconnection and integration,
  • Overview of evidence-based trauma assessment tools and treatment modalities,
  • Overview of trauma's impact on the brain, body and behaviours.
  • Learn how trauma is experienced on a sensory level and thus, ‘talk’ therapy may not be enough to reach the traumatic reactions children and teens exhibit through behaviour,
  • Overview of sensory interventions that reach trauma themes: trauma and grief, fear and terror, worry, hurt, anger, revenge.
  • Learn mind/body activities for emotional regulation,
  • Understand the factors that influence resiliency,
  • Acquire knowledge of activities, resources and certifications with other organizations for your use later with the children and teens in your practice as they embark on their journey of hope and healing.
  • Overview of compassion fatigue and the importance of promoting resilience within your own practice.
