Guidelines for Safer Hoist Sling Selection

In recent years there have been a number of significant accidents in the UK where patients have fallen from hoists, resulting in serious injury or death. This is unacceptable and usually avoidable. All healthcare professionals have a responsibility for patient safety. In this webinar, the initial findings of the project led by the UK Health & Safety Executive outlining the accidents, their causes and the human factors involved will be discussed. Occupational therapists play a key role in the prescription, demonstration and correct use of equipment. Simple practical guidelines to follow will be outlined to ensure safer sling selection and make sure patients are hoisted with comfort, safety and dignity.
