Basic hand/wrist splinting: clinical reasoning, decision making, fabrication and fit of custom and pre-fabricated splints (April 20, 2021)

Occupational therapists are presented with many decisions when prescribing upper extremity splints, including choosing between custom and pre-fabricated splints and wear schedules. Clinical reasoning is required to maximize occupational performance and comfort. 

This webinar will provide an overview of basic principles of splinting and mechanical splint design, focusing on the wrist and hand. Clinical reasoning and decision making related to splinting will be discussed.  Custom vs. pre-fabricated splints will be explored, including tips to fitting a pre-fabricated splint.

After taking part of this webinar, participants will be able to:
   1. Understand basic principles of splinting and mechanical splint design.
   2. Explain their clinical reasoning and decision making related to splinting, with a focus on the wrist/hand. 
   3. Implement tips for fitting pre-fabricated splints.
