Upper extremity deficits are common post stroke and can lead to decreased use of the upper extremity in daily tasks and decreased participation in valued life roles. Occupational therapists can provide the necessary rehabilitation to both maximize upper extremity recovery and minimize complications with the goal of optimizing occupational performance.
This webinar with review priority areas for assessment and intervention of the upper extremity post stroke, including progressing active movement, managing spasticity and edema, and promoting sensory recovery. Current evidence based interventions will be reviewed and priority areas identified in this often complex area of occupational therapy practice. Occupational therapists will be provided with practical strategies to consider when progressing clients' upper extremity rehabilitation programs as well as with resources to further advance their knowledge in this area. The importance of client education and promotion of self-management will also be discussed.
