As the population ages, a third of community-dwelling older adults will experience some memory issues. Mindfulness may support emotional health and well-being for those with early cognitive decline. Occupational therapists are well-positioned to support this growing population from a functional and psychosocial perspective.
This webinar aims to review evidence in the literature on mindfulness such as mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) to support older adults with early cognitive deficits. There has been a surge of research on MBSR that support the general population with emotional health and well-being. This webinar will highlight how occupational therapists working with the older adult population may consider the potential use of MBSR in their practice and with their older adult population. This webinar will also explore how teachers and facilitators of mindfulness may benefit from their own personal mindfulness practice, as doing so would support both their professional and personal growth.
