Resilience in Families with Autism (May 21, 2013)

Resilience in Families with Autism (May 21, 2013)

In families of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), significant stressors can impact family functioning, and family centred care is crucial for enhancing their resiliency. Occupational therapists must understand both the difficulties faced by families and the opportunities that exist for family centred care and creative and collaborative programs to address critical family needs. The available literature, along with principles of family centred care, will be applied to occupational therapy practices through case examples, to generate program ideas that are evidence based and helpful to families of children with an ASD.
