Screening the at-risk Driver (January 29, 2013)

Screening the at-risk Driver (January 29, 2013)

Functional deficits may affect a person's ability to drive safely. Although some occupational therapists are specialized in the evaluation of driving safety, all occupational therapists working with an adult clientele need to be able to determine if such an evaluation is appropriate for their client. Screening the at-risk driver is a challenging task, but as our population ages, it is paramount that front-line healthcare professionals are equipped to determine whether a client poses a risk behind-the-wheel. This webinar will introduce the pre-requisite skills that are required for safe driving and will highlight those functional deficits that are most likely to impair a driver's abilities. Screening approaches and tools are both evidence-based and realistic for an occupational therapist's clinical practice will be presented.
