Vision rehabilitation: Practical strategies for occupational therapists (May 11, 2021)
Description

ON-DEMAND WEBINAR PURCHASE

Presented by: Stephanie Schurr

Clients with mild-to-moderate traumatic brain injury frequently experience symptoms of visual dysfunction such as difficulty reading and using computers, which interferes with their ability to return to valued occupations. Occupational therapists require practical, occupation-based strategies to help their clients develop their tolerance for these activities and therefore facilitate recovery.

After a brief overview of the visual symptoms experienced by clients with mild traumatic brain injury, this webinar will explore  ways that different eye movements and functions (e.g. saccades, pursuits, convergence, divergence)  are used in daily occupations.  A combination of compensatory strategies and remedial activities will be discussed, as well as the importance of working with the client's optometrist to ensure optimal vision health.

After taking part in this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Define the different types of eye movements that can be affected by brain injury in a way that can be explained easily to clients.
  2. Identify the role of occupational therapists in modifying activities to improve tolerance for visual work.
  3. Apply strategies for increasing tolerance for  visual demands to clients' occupational goals.
