Managing Director of CAOT-Qc
Soëla Bandaly, OT, B.Sc.-M.Sc.

Soëla Bandaly

Soëla Bandaly graduated from the Bachelor-Master’s continuum in Occupational Therapy at the University of Montreal. Her passion sprung forth at the early stages of her education as she got involved in school organizations and associations which aimed to increase the visibility of the profession. Moreover, Soëla was selected as an ambassador for the University of Montreal and went on a student exchange program in Sydney, Australia, where she gained valuable international perspective.

Ever since she graduated, she has been working in private practice with varied populations (physical/mental health). In addition to her role as a clinician, she is also the director of a virtual clinic, a project in which she played an essential role in developing, in order to offer accessible rehabilitation services during the pandemic. In the past few years, she continues to be a mentor for new OTs and is involved in the onboarding process and peer support program both regionally and nationally at her workplace.

Over the years, she has developed a particular interest in mental health. She advocates for the cause on social media and has been involved in the Bell Let’s Talk campaign every year, since its inception. In addition, she has held the position of Web Communicator for the Revue des Ergothérapeutes du Québec ERG-go! since 2016. This journal covers many relevant topics in occupational therapy, such as clinical experiences of OTs in Quebec and internationally, emerging practices in occupational therapy and related fields, and current issues that influence our daily practice. Furthermore, she was a member on the board of the Association Québécoise des Ergothérapeutes en Pratique Privée (AQEPP) for more than 2 years. This organization aims to promote the recognition, development, and representation of occupational therapy in private practice, among the population and government organizations in Quebec.

Soëla is passionate about her profession and is joining the CAOT-QC in winter 2023, with the desire to continue to promote, support and advocate for occupational therapy and ultimately ensure that it has its place as one of the pillars in healthcare in today’s society.

2021 - Pénélope McQuade

Popular television and radio host, Pénélope McQuade received occupational therapy services following a serious car accident in May 2009. Since then, whether on television or radio, Ms. McQuade has never missed an opportunity to talk about the profession of occupational therapy. She says the services she received in occupational therapy were key to her return home and to work. Through her own experience, she brilliantly conveys the occupational essence of the profession. She describes occupational therapy as "a profession and a fascinating world. More broadly, Ms. McQuade demonstrates a strong commitment to the health and well-being of the population by remaining involved with the facilities that provided her care following her accident. She was an ambassador for a major fundraising campaign for the Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur de Montréal. As a great friend of the Foundation of the Gingras-Lindsay Rehabilitation Institute of Montreal, she took part in an artistic project featuring people who have used rehabilitation services, the idea being to highlight the self-improvement they demonstrate. She even shared her experience by visiting young people in schools. Thus, by generously using her experience and notoriety, Ms. McQuade promotes occupational therapy to the general public and contributes to the funding and outreach of several health care institutions.
